A gardeners dream
MotHs is doing what we can to support this local Mums of the Hills member. This year Rebecca Mitchell at Little Footprint Studios challenged herself to enter into Melbourne’s International Flower and Garden Show. With “nothing to lose” she put all her passion into this project and to her credit has been accepted for not one but TWO gardens (1 balcony and 1 border garden).
MotHs Hub is GO GO GO!
Mums of the Hills is getting its very own permanent hub! Finally after years of hiring spaces, using my kids cubby as the MotHs HQ and storing all the MotHs borrowing gear, MotHs will have busy buzzing new home.

Investing in Women’s Mental Health
Stress, a feeling of being overwhelmed or unable to cope with mental or emotional pressures, is the top mental health issue facing women today, with almost 70% of women in Australia experiencing stress. Unsurprising given research showing that women often perform far more cognitive and emotional labour than men.

The beginning of a big year for Mums of the Hills
Last Tuesday night I was announced as the VIC State recipient of the 2023 Australian of the Year Local Hero award. It meant so much to just be nominated, to be further recognised as the 2023 recipient had me spinning.
Post Partum Health a key concern
Women’s post partum health and care has been neglected and is due for a much needed overhaul. We are facing a nation of women that are overworked, burnt out, physically and mentally traumatised from our current birth practices and the lack of post partum support and healthcare.
Ask Everyday RUOK?
In the private MotHs group, we chat about pretty much every topic you can think of. Thankfully, the group wisdom and experience is phenomenal and support is always on hand. Most recently, the topic of mental health has come up a lot in our conversations. I’ve done a search and found some more useful services for locals on this very subject.

Living in the forested Dandenong Ranges, residents are caretakers of some truly beautiful tree species. I asked John from Tree Range Arborist about his work, the trees he manages and what residents should watch out for to keep their trees healthy and safe.
Creating a Village for New Mums
Pregnancy is not just about carrying a baby for nine months. Society tells us that we must “bounce back” physically after having a baby, that we should resume our normal sex and exercise lives 6 weeks post partum and that we should be happy that we get to be mothers – all the time. Osteopath Rebecca Lovett is here to dispel those myths.
Overturning Roe v Wade (1973): The facts, the situation in Australia, and how you can show support
The late US Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) once said that "reacting in anger or annoyance will not advance one's ability to persuade". With RBG firmly in mind, I calmed myself and set about gathering some facts.
Cracks, Community & Kintsugi: Remembering the June 2021 storm
I didn’t lose my house in the June storm of 2021. Just putting it out there to avoid disappointment. I do have a tale that describes my experience of the night our community was irrevocably changed. It’s not easy to admit, but it was also the night I cracked a bit.
